Virtual School-Based Physical Therapy Specialist - Kentucky
Qualifications
• Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) or Bachelor’s/Master's degree in Physical Therapy from a CAPTE-accredited program
• Active Kentucky Physical Therapist license issued by the Kentucky Board of Physical Therapy (KBPT)
• Minimum of 2+ years of experience (school-based and/or teletherapy preferred)
• Experience with Kentucky IEP development, gross motor evaluations, and virtual service delivery is a plus
• Strong communication, organization, and time-management skills
• Comfortable using teletherapy platforms, digital resources, and remote communication tools
Key Responsibilities
Assessment & Intervention
• Conduct virtual evaluations to assess gross motor function, functional mobility, and physical accessibility needs within the educational environment
• Develop and implement individualized physical therapy treatment plans tailored to student needs in a remote format
• Provide direct teletherapy services focused on educational, functional motor goals and track student progress
• Use data to guide clinical decision-making and modify gross motor intervention strategies
Collaboration & Support
• Work closely with general and special education teachers, parents, school administrators, and support staff to optimize student mobility and participation
• Provide practical recommendations for classroom positioning, adaptive equipment, and gross motor carryover strategies
• Participate actively in Admissions and Release Committee (ARC) / virtual IEP meetings and multidisciplinary evaluations
Documentation & Compliance
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation of service delivery, progress notes, and IEP goal updates
• Ensure all evaluations and therapeutic services strictly align with Kentucky Department of Education (KDE) standards, district policies, and IDEA mandates
• Complete comprehensive evaluation summaries, eligibility documentation, and required compliance reports
Technology & Teletherapy Tools
• Utilize virtual platforms and interactive digital tools to deliver engaging, movement-based therapy sessions
• Adapt physical activities, visual exercise models, and coaching strategies for an effective virtual learning environment
• Troubleshoot basic technology issues and guide onsite facilitators and families during remote sessions
Advocacy & Education
• Support students in accessing appropriate physical accommodations, adaptive devices, and assistive mobility tools
• Provide educational resources, training, and guidance to school personnel and families on pediatric motor development and physical accessibility
